Rita Moreno was born December 11, 1931 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Her childhood nickname growing up was “Rosita”. She is currently 89 years old and her career continues to grow for over 70 years now. Rita is mostly known for her roles in musical films Singin’ in the Rain (1952), The King and I (1956), and West Side Story (1961). She is one of the few artists who have won all four major North American entertainment awards: an Emmy (1977-1978), Grammy (1972), Oscar (1962), and Tony (1975). In the present day, Rita is currently portraying the role of Lydia Margarita in the series of “One Day at A Time”.
Moreno’s career started at a really young age. Just when she was 13 years old, she had her first Broadway role as Angelina in “Skydrift” where she was first seen and her attention was caught by many around the world. After winning her Oscar award, she hoped to perform in. less stereotypical film roles but didn’t turn out to be this way. Rita still loved what she did as she continued to inspire the world.
What I most love about Rita Moreno is how inspiring she is. Til this day, her career is still ongoing. She has won so many awards throughout her life. Another thing I also love about her is that she is billingual and a lot of her shows are in Spanish as well.
